Students are the people who give feedback, so they need to be in Lernmark and able to log in. You manage this on the Student registry. Its description reads: "Manage student profiles, enrollments, and roster imports in one place." A roster is simply your list of students.
The three tabs
The Student registry has up to three tabs:
- Students: the list of student profiles (name and matricule).
- Enrollments: which students are attached to which class sections this session. Enrollment is what makes a student eligible to evaluate the classes they take.
- Import: a way to add many students at once from a file, rather than typing them one by one. This tab is available on some editions.
Add your students
You have two ways to add students:
- Import a list. On the Import tab, upload your roster file. This is the fastest way when you have many students. Lernmark reads the file and creates a profile for each student.
- Add them individually. On the Students tab, add students one at a time. This suits small groups or last-minute additions.
Seat usage
Some editions include a set number of student places, called seats. If your edition has a limit, the registry shows how many seats you have used, so you know where you stand.
Enroll students in their classes
Adding a student creates their profile; enrolling them attaches them to the class sections they actually take this session. On the Enrollments tab, confirm that each student is enrolled in the right section. This is what lets the evaluation reach the correct students for each teacher.
How students activate their accounts
Students do not use email addresses to log in. Instead, each student activates their account once, using a one-time activation code you provide. Here is how it works:
- You give each student three things: your school's school code, their own matricule (their student identity number), and a one-time activation code.
- The student opens Activate student account and enters those three values.
- The student sets their own password.
After that, the student logs in with the school code, their matricule, and the password they chose, no email account required.
Why one-time codes?
A one-time code proves the account belongs to the real student and can only be used once. This is safer than letting anyone claim an account just by knowing a matricule.
What you achieved
- Your students are in Lernmark, either imported or added by hand.
- Students are enrolled in the class sections they take.
- Each student has a safe, one-time way to activate their own account.
