Your academic structure is the description of how your school is organized. Everything else (students, courses, timetables, fees, results) hangs off it, so it is worth setting up carefully once.

From the dashboard, open Academic setup: "Set up your school's structure: campuses, departments, programmes, levels, class sections, and school years." Its tabs walk you through each building block.

The core building blocks are the same ones described in the Essential guide. If you have already read Build your academic structure, the basics will be familiar; this page adds the extra pieces the full platform uses.
The building blocks
| Block | What it means |

| Institution | The school itself. A workspace can hold more than one. |
| Campus | A physical branch of an institution, for schools with several locations. |
| Department | A grouping of related subjects or staff. |
| Programme | A course of study students follow, such as a degree or diploma. |
| Level | A stage or year within a programme. |
| Class section | A specific group of students taught together. |
| School year | The year your school runs on, such as "2025 / 2026". |
| Term | A subdivision of a school year, such as "Term 1" and "Term 2". |
Campuses and terms are the pieces you may not have met in the Essential guide. Campuses let one institution run in several places. Terms let you divide a year for timetabling, exams, and fees.
Step by step
- Create your institution(s) and, if you have more than one location, add campuses.
- Add departments.
- Add programmes and link each to its department.
- Add levels for the stages students move through.
- Add class sections: the real groups of students.
- Create the school year, then add its terms.
Match the platform's words to yours
Schools use different words: "programme" or "course of study", "level" or "year". The platform uses the neutral words above everywhere; read them as your own school's equivalents.
What you achieved
- Your institution, and any campuses, exist on the platform.
- Departments, programmes, levels, and sections describe your school.
- You have a school year and terms to attach courses, fees, and results to.
